What Is a Seller Rating on a Marketplace

How the seller rating differs from the product rating, what it is built from (shipments, cancellations, late deliveries, defects) and what a low rating costs you.

What Is a Seller Rating on a Marketplace

The seller rating is an assessment of you as a supplier, separate from the product rating. It is built not from customer ratings of the product, but from the quality of your operations: how fast you process and ship orders, your share of cancellations and late deliveries, your defect and return rates, and your compliance with platform rules. A low seller rating damages your operating terms — up to restrictions and penalties — so it deserves the same attention as the product rating.

In short: the product rating is about the product (customer ratings), the seller rating is about your discipline (shipments, cancellations, delays, defects). These are different metrics. How the system works on Ozon — metrics, thresholds, Premium points — is covered in a separate guide.

What it is built from

  • Order processing and shipping speed — orders shipped on time (especially on FBS/rFBS).
  • Share of cancellations caused by the seller — cancellations hit the rating hard.
  • Late deliveries and missed deadlines.
  • Defects and returns caused by the seller, plus customer complaints.

How to maintain it

  • Keep real stock levels up to date so you never have to cancel orders because the item is out of stock.
  • Ship on time; on FBS, build in a time buffer.
  • Control quality and packaging to reduce defects and returns.
  • Follow platform rules — violations drag the rating down and lead to penalties.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

"How is the seller rating different from the product rating?" The product rating is formed by customer ratings of a specific product. The seller rating evaluates your work — shipping speed, cancellations, late deliveries, defects, and rule compliance. These are different metrics.

"What lowers the seller rating?" Order cancellations caused by the seller, late shipments and deliveries, defects and returns, and violations of platform rules. Cancellations and late deliveries hit hardest.

"What does a low seller rating lead to?" Worse operating terms, reduced limits, and penalties up to and including restrictions. A low seller rating hurts even products with good ratings.

"How do you raise the seller rating?" Keep stock levels accurate, ship on time, reduce cancellations and defects, and follow platform rules. The rating recovers as correct statistics accumulate.
